S. Korea Reports Three New African Swine Fever Cases

(MENAFN) South Korea confirmed three additional African swine fever (ASF) infections on Friday, bringing the total for 2026 to 14.

The latest cases were identified at pig farms in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province; Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province; and Hongseong, South Chungcheong Province. The country’s first confirmed case this year was reported on January 16.

Authorities plan to cull roughly 10,000 pigs from the affected farms to prevent further spread, as directed by the central disaster management headquarters for ASF.

A 48-hour standstill order has been imposed on pig farms and related facilities in both affected and neighboring areas.

Officials also intend to inspect around 4,800 pig farms nationwide by February 28, warning that the virus could spread further during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.
