Two South Koreans get detained in Iran on smuggling allegations
The arrests, which also involved one Iranian national, occurred around November 20 in the southwestern part of the country, as stated by officials familiar with the situation.
One of the detained South Koreans works for a public institution in South Korea, while the other resides in Iran. All three individuals are reportedly facing the same charges, according to the sources.
No official response from Tehran regarding the allegations was immediately available.
South Korean diplomatic representatives have been in contact with the local embassy and Iranian authorities since the detentions, offering consular assistance to those affected.
"It is difficult to disclose details as the case is still under investigation by local authorities," a South Korean government official said.
