South Korea’s ICT Exports Expand for Fifth Consecutive Month

(MENAFN) South Korea's exports of information and communications technology (ICT) products expanded for the fifth consecutive month, propelled by strong demand in the semiconductor sector, government data revealed Monday.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, ICT shipments in June climbed 4.7 percent year-on-year, reaching $22.03 billion, continuing a steady growth trajectory that began in February.

Exports of semiconductor chips surged 11.5 percent to a record $14.98 billion, fueled by heightened demand for advanced products like double data rate 5 (DDR5) and high bandwidth memory (HBM), components critical for generative artificial intelligence (AI) chipsets.

Shipments of computers and peripherals jumped 12.7 percent to $1.45 billion, while exports of communications equipment declined slightly by 0.7 percent to $200 million.

However, display panel exports fell sharply by 33.7 percent to $1.29 billion, and mobile phone shipments dropped 6.2 percent to $790 million.
