"Police restricted lawmakers' entry around the National Assembly on the night of Dec. 3," Yoo Jae-seong stated, adding: "This act disrupted democracy and the constitutional order and was an unconstitutional and illegal act that threatened the daily lives of the people."
"(I) sincerely apologize," he added.
Yoo's statement arrived days before the one-year mark of President Yoon's unsuccessful martial law declaration on Dec. 3.
Two senior law enforcement officials—Cho Ji-ho, former National Police Agency director, and Kim Bong-sik, ex-Seoul police commissioner—currently face prosecution on charges of allegedly facilitating insurrection during the incident.
